Law and Risk Management Workshop

COURSE CONTENT:
The purpose of this workshop is to provide school district staff with an overview of key legal and risk management topics that impact school finance operations. Topics will include an understanding of property, liability and workers compensation policies and preventing claims. A review of the understanding the role of the governing board vs management will be provided. Additionally, key legal topics such as FLSA, FMLA, and hiring and firing employees as well as open meeting laws will be reviewed.
• Complete a walk through of property, liability and workers compensation coverage.
• Review key employment laws impacting Arizona school districts such as FLSA and FMLA
• Learn about the history and purpose of self-insured pools
• Overview of the property, liability, and workers’ comp claim adjudication process
• Overview of the loss control or safety services
COURSE FEE:
Member Cost: Early Registration $95.00. Registration within 10 days prior to workshop $105.00. Workshop includes continental breakfast and lunch.

An email will be sent by AASBO the week of the class with information on class updates, materials or information requested by instructor.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT:
Successful completion of this workshop will qualify for 6.5 CPE credit hours. You must sign in AM and PM to receive the CPE hours. CPE letter will be emailed after the course once attendance is verified. Letter may also be found in your AASBO Profile under Professional Development.
CANCELLATION POLICY:
Cancellations must be submitted in writing five (5) business days prior to the class to qualify for a refund. If you cannot attend but would like to send someone in your place please contact the AASBO Office to do so.
